Asia: Lack of equitable job creation
2 décembre 2011 // 0 CommentairesThe International Labour Organization (ILO) has highlighted the fact that most of the new jobs created in Asian countries are of low quality. Workers in these emerging regions tend to earn low wages, have no social benefits and their working conditions are very poor.
Although Asian countries have shown consistent economic growth over recent years, there are now signs of a slowdown which in turn could mean that the recent progress made in social gains could even be reversed if the world economic crisis lasts for a longer period.
The ILO also says that informal employment is still very widespread in Asia, amounting to 42.3% of total employment in Thailand, 62% in East Timor, 62.1% in Sri Lanka and even 68.2% in Vietnam.
