Switzerland: Geneva’s International jobs going well
9 décembre 2011 // 0 CommentairesEmployment in the InternationalPublic sector in Geneva has remained nearly stable. In one year it decreased by only 72 workplaces (- 0.3%) leaving 25 388 employees currently working in this sector, according to the Cantonal Office for Statistics (OCSTAT).
According to the figures published by OCSTAT, at the end of March 2011, 21 488 people were employed by 28 international organizations (IO) in Geneva. In addition, there were some 3 900 public sector employees working for permanent missions.
In 2010, the overall spending of 21 IOs benefitting from special ‘headquarters’ status amounted to 5.5 billion Swiss Francs, of which 3 billion (56%) was related to salary expenses. In one year, total spending increased by 3.6%, with salary expenditure going up by 1.5% and running costs by 4.2%.
