Australia: Unemployment reaches 5.8% but increase less than expected
Despite the rate of unemployment increasing by 0.1% in June, the total was still less than the figure of 5.9% which had been predicted. The government is already implementing a stimulus package worth some $33bn (£20bn) which aims to support 90 000 jobs for the next two years and it is this which has managed to prevent the economy going into recession.
Still though, the government has already warned that unemployment could rise to 8.5% by mid-2011.
