General Motors Europe will shut its Opel factory in Antwerp by the end of 2010, resulting in 1200 job losses. This follows its failure to find a buyer for the plant before the end of September.

GM has already implemented most of the 5700 job cuts it planned to make across Europe this year, principally in Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom.
