The Quelle mail order and catalogue firm is to close in Germany after efforts by its owner Arcandor to sell the company failed. According to the services trade union Verdi, the collapse of the 82-year old firm will mean that while all of its staff in Germany will be made redundant, its business in central and eastern Europe will continue. Arcandor has been under bankruptcy protection since June and is also trying to dispose of the Karstadt department store.
