UK: 1200 jobs go at pharmacautical research site
1200 jobs will go at AstraZeneca’s research facility in Loughborough, Leicestershire by the end of 2011, as part of the company’s January announcement of 8 000 redundancies worldwide. This move has been taken despite the firm having spent over £100m developing the site over the last 10 years. Local council leaders are to seek a meeting with the company to get more information on the plans and explore the possibility of the plant remaining open. The January revelations followed an earlier decision to cut 12 000 posts in the drive to improve efficiency.
