According to the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), some 12 000 police officer and 16 000 civilian support staff posts are to go due to proposed spending cuts of 20% by 2014-2015. The 12% reduction in employees was revealed in a memo leaked to the Guardian newspaper while a review on spending and conditions is to be publishe later today.
For the government, the Home Secretary has already said that pay reductions are inevitable to try to protect front-line police jobs.
