UK: 900 jobs to go at Bosch, Wales
900 jobs will disappear following the announcement that Bosch is to close its starter motor plant in South Wales in 2011 to transfer production to Hungary in an effort to cut costs. Talks had been ongoing since September 2009, when Bosch warned posts were at risk due to falling sales and demand, and possible options had included 300 redundancies or the closure of the whole plant. A Bosch spokesman revealed that discussions will continue until February to work out redundancy packages. The closure came despite the direct intervention of the Welsh Assembly who had offered help to keep the facility open.
