UK: BA seeking to avert strike action
With the news that staff members from the union Unite have voted overwhelmingly to go out on strike on a turnout of 80%, British Airways is said to be considering “all options” to deal with the impact of this action. This includes rescheduling flights and could even include seeking an injunction to prevent the walkout. The strikes are due to begin on 22 December, last for 12 days and result principally from the union’s opposition to imposed reductions in the number of crew on long-haul flights, changes to working conditions and wage reductions for new employees.
