UK: Bookshop chain in last chance to survive

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The UK bookshop chain Borders has been under administration by MCR since last Thursday and while the administrators are trying to sell the firm as a going concern, MCR have not ruled out the possibility of having to liquidate the firm. If this were to happen, then all 1150 jobs at the company’s 45 shops across the UK would disappear. MCR added that there is only a three to four-week window of opportunity to dispose of the company and that all staff had been given an update of the situation on Saturday morning. Borders has been greatly affected by competition from supermarkets and online retailers.
