Earlier this year, B&Q (a leading UK DIY and Garden Centre retailer) announced a £1 million programme aimed at improving employees’ skills through continuous professional development. An apprenticeship scheme has been launched and with over 33 500 employees, anyone of non-management grade and of any age can participate in working towards the qualifications – particularly striking as 28% of them are over 50 and 8% over 65. So far, 150 employees have signed up.
