BT has agreed a new pay deal with the Communciation Workers Union (CWU) which will see 55 000 employees – including engineers and call centre workers – receive a pay increase of 9.3% over 39 months.

The CWU had been looking for a 5% rise just in 2010-2011 while BT had offered 5.1% over 21 months. The agreement was welcomed by management, saying that they would benefit from ‘a long period of certainity’ whilst the union said it would ‘provide a fair rise in basic pay this year and for the following two years’ and would now seek endorsement of the offer in a ballot of its members.

A previous ballot on industrial action was cancelled last Monday following legal advice.
