Leaders from the Unite train union are due to meet the head of operations for General Motors in Europe, Nick Reilly, to discuss the future of Vauxhall, GM’s British subsidiary. Some job losses had been expected amongst Vauxhall’s 5 500 workers as a result of GM’s initial plans to sell off its European operations. With the cancellation of this sale to the Canadian parts-maker Magna due to ‘more favourable trading conditions’, some job losses are still seen as inevitable and Unite are seeking to win assurances over the future of the two plants in the UK.
