GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is to reduce its workforce by 380 when it closes a research unit in Essex, although the plant in Harlow will remain open. This announcement came after GSK had revealed a 12% rise in profits last week while also stressing that it was looking to make £500m of cost savings by 2012. The company said it would “try to preserve jobs” wherever it could.
