UK: MPs to question Kraft over Cadbury

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Following Cadbury’s takeover by Kraft, British MPs are to question the US company in early March about its plans for the UK confectioner concerning jobs, future production in the UK and Kraft’s objectives for Cadbury. During their bid, Kraft had said that they would keep Cadbury’s Bristol plant open in the event of winning their bidding war and thus preserve 400 jobs. Since the hostile merger, however, the company has gone back on their pledge and the plant will now close with production transferred to Poland as the relocation plans were already ‘too advanced’. Welcoming the news, the Unite Union said that the House of Commons Business Select committee needs to make sure that Kraft “cannot slip scrutiny any longer.”
