UK: New UK government unveils work proposals
The new British coalition government has unveiled proposals to extend the right to request flexible working to every employee. The joint Conservative- Liberal Democrat document also includes plans for a review of pay in the public sector resulting in the highest paid public servants earning no more than twenty times the salary of the lowest paid; the phased removal of the statutory retirement age of 65 and a decision to review when it is to be raised to 66 with a guarantee that it will not be before 2016 for men and 2020 for women; a re-evaluation of all those on Incapacity Benefit with those being assessed as capable of working transferred to Jobseeker’s Allowance; and a promise to have all Jobseeker’s Allowance claimants under the age of 25 placed on a new programme in 6 months.
