UK: Proposed 14 days sick leave without seeing a doctor for swine flu patients
The government’s Civil Contingency Committee plans to allow staff who are infected with the H1N1 virus to take up to 14 days off work without a doctor’s certificate. The plans have also been supported by the CIPD (the Chartered Institure of Personnel and Development). Ben Willmott, CIPD senior public adviser, asserted that these temporary measures were a prudent step to reduce the workload on the healthcare profession and prevent the spread of infection.
