UK: Pub chain to create 10 000 jobs
J D Wetherspoon has plans to open 250 new pubs across the UK in the next five years and as a result, create some 10 000 jobs. This is a slight rise in their existing rate of expansion plans. Tim Martin, Chairman of Wetherspoon’s, revealed that after reducing this rate in the last few years due to unrealistic property prices, their fall in the recession had meant that the company could take the opportunity to invest £250m in these new outlets. According to figures from the British Beer & Pub Association, 52 pubs a week are closing nationally.
