As the maxim says, “Whether you think you can, or you can’t, you’re right.”
UK: Skilled migrant cap agreed
As of next year, 21 700 skilled workers from outside the European Economic Area will be allowed into the UK to work, a reduction of 6300 compared to today. This figure does not, however, include workers transferred to the UK by their companies who will be able to stay for a maximum of five years if they earn over £40 000 a year.
Business had called for the exclusion of intra-company transfers to the UK, of which there were 22 000 last year, while the Unite union condemned the decision by saying it allowed employers to undercut the local workforce. The Labour opposition also warned that any limits could damage the economy and employment.
