Latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show that UK unemployment in the three months to the end of January reached 8%, the highest since 1994. Jobless totals among 16-24 year olds increased by 0.8% to hit 20.6%, another record.
At the same time, the number of people in work increased to 29.16 million, the highest since Autumn 2010 while the number of job vacancies in the three months to February also went up by 24 000 to almost half a million.
