UK : Work sacrifices key during recession
In Britain, 53% of workers say they have made sacrifices in the past year to keep their job during the economic crisis. Indeed, 28% of employees agreed to longer hours and unpaid overtime, 15% accepted a pay freeze, 14% took a pay cut and 4% opted for voluntary redundancy. The study conducted by the R3 insolvency trade body, also found that a proportion of employees did not request a pay rise while others did not receive the bonus they would usually get because of the recession. According to R3, more flexible working practices like these have been the key to helping companies through these difficult times and represent an effective way of protecting jobs.
