Sanofi-Aventis is to reduce its US staff by 1700, or 13% of its total workforce there, as it seeks to restructure and refocus its business. The French pharmaceutical firm is currently defending itself from a hostile takeover bid by an American biotech company but says that the job losses are not connected to this.
