Hi All,
Another great way to boost your immune system during the changing seasons, almost for free, is to use a pretty flowering plant from your garden or balcony, the Nasturtium, also known as Tom Thumbs. And if you have grown them yourself, you can be sure that they are bio…
Nasturtiums are high in vitamin C and contain natural antibiotics. They have a lovely spicy, peppery taste. If you have the beginnings of a sore throat you can eat three Nasturtium leaves, one per hour. This is purported to ward off colds and flu. In South America the Nasturtium is used as a treatment for bladder and kidney ailments, as well as for sore throats, coughs, colds and flu.
Nasturtiums are also great in salads as a leaf or as edible decoration using the flowers. Stuffed with cream cheese, they make excellent snacks. You can also prepare delicious peppery pesto with the leaves and flowers, and the seeds can be pickled and used like capers.
