Apple announced in a Press release published earlier this week that the iTunes Store has passed the figure of 25 billion song downloads in 10 years - a cash generating machine that the music industry wouldn’t have bet on a decade ago.
Do you know how to win €10’000 without doing anything, or maybe by just investing € 0,99? It’s easy; you just need to be the person who bought the 25 billionth song on iTunes. This is just what has happened to Phillip Lüpke, a German citizen and iTunes music fan. He has just received a gift card of €10’000 from iTunes for being the 25 billionth fan to download a song.
Apple has disclosed some figures regarding iTunes. Launched 10 years ago and available in 119 countries, iTunes is the world’s most popular music store with a catalogue of over 26 million songs. With an average of 15’000 songs downloaded per minute, it generated a turnover of $1.7 billion during Q4 2012.
iTunes is a genuine cash generating machine, launched by a technology company who understood far beyond all others, the potential of purchasing and downloading music online by providing both the content and the format to read it.
